1. The Braided Hun
This hairstyle not only looks super cute but it’s really good at disguising dirty roots.
If you spritz a bit of dry shampoo into the roots of your hair before you create this style you’ll get a little extra volume and your hair will look softer.
You really only need some bobby pins and hair elastics for this one so it’s easy for anyone to achieve. I prefer to use clear polybands so that the band remains completely invisible.
TIP: Backcomb the ponytail before twisting it into a bun, this will give the bun extra volume and make it look bigger.
2. The Messy Bun + Twist
Again this style disguises dirty roots, but it also disguises dry unwashed ends. The twist is really simple to recreate at home.
This style is great style, you can wear it from work to gym or vice versa, because it keeps all the hair off your face and out of the way.
TIP: Make sure the twist is tight so that it stays in all day, add an extra bobby pin or two just to be safe.
3. The Twist & Clip
This style is probably the most effortless of the lot, and it looks it’s best by being ‘imperfect’. By sweeping the hair back off the face you’re hiding any greasiness or dirty roots, and if you spray a little dry shampoo into the roots beforehand you will also add height and texture to the crown of your head, giving the illusion of clean washed hair.
TIP: This hairstyle can also be adapted to twist and clip all the hair up, not just half-up. These Scunci clips are SO handy to have around for a quick and easy hairstyle.
4. Topsy Tail Chignon
I’ve been saying it for years but I’ll say it again ‘bring back the topsy tail!’. Topsy tail hair styles add a super pretty touch to any basic ponytail. By topsy tailing the hair twice you can create this chignon bun type look.
The beauty of this one is it looks elegant but it also holds the hair really tight and it definitely won’t get loose during the day.
TIP: You can opt for the hair all swept back off the face for a sleeker look, or you can pull out some soft fly-away pieces around the face if you'd prefer.
5. Top Knot
Let me start by saying that this style looks best when you put in the least amount of effort. Again the more imperfect the bun, the better it looks.
Always try to sweep the hair up into the ponytail by just using your fingers rather than a brush, to ensure you get that effortless ‘undone’ look.
TIP: This is a favourite of mine because it’s just so damn comfortable to wear. And by adding a scrunchie or two it adds height to the bun, gives extra hold and looks pretty too!
6. Twist + Braid
This style incorporates the twist which is great at hiding dirty roots, but it also adds detail around the face which is always super flattering. When you braid the remaining section of hair, sweep it over the shoulder (if it’s long enough) on the same side as the twist, so that the finished braid sits on or over your shoulder.
TIP: Once you’ve finished the style pull gently at the braid to loosen it and make it look more lived in. Also remember to pull out some fly-away pieces around the face so it look soft and bohemian.
