Say goodbye to unwanted Frizz this Summer.
We all love summer, but there are definitely some beauty challenges to overcome. There's sunburn, mozzie bites, weird tan lines, and the worst of them all: FRIZZY HAIR!
With a little bit of planning (check your weather app the night before!) and some beauty routine flexibility, you don't need to have another bad summer hair day.
So why does your hair get so frizzy when it is humid?
Humid air causes hydrogen bonds to form between water molecules and the proteins in your hair, triggering curls and frizz. ... Straight hair goes wavy. If you have curly hair, humidity turns it frizzy or even curlier.
Too much info..
Ok so let us give you a few life saving tips on how to fight that frizz! You can thank us later.
1. Coconut Oil
If the all-natural, organic route is more your style – the easiest fix for humidity is some good ole coconut oil.
Coconut oil is a great moisturizer for hair because it seals in water and moisture from your leave-in, without heavy build up.
How to use it:
- Do not heat the coconut oil in the microwave.
- Use extra virgin coconut oil.
- Coconut oil begins to melt at 76 degrees.
- Apply to damp or dry hair.
- Massage the oil into the roots for a scalp treatment.
- Leave it on for at least 30 minutes.
- Use warm water to rinse the oil
Ponytails and braids are humidity-friendly styles, sure but, the trick is to control those annoying little hair line frizzies.
We recommend keeping a wax stick handy. If your hair is fairly unruly, run some wax through your hair prior to braiding. If you're just worried about the hair line, slick on a bit after styling and it will stay put.
Voila – let wax be your secret weapon this summer.
3. Wear your hair up as much as possible.
Choose a relaxed up style, especially if you're prone to extreme frizz, it will help manage frizz while still embracing its texture.
Girls with tight curls or wavy texture in their hair are, unfortunately, more frizz-prone, so choosing a more humidity-friendly style is your best bet. An adorable braided look or sexy neck-bearing topknot will be a solid bet to keep your hair contained and less prone to frizz. The trend in 'effortless hair' lends itself greatly to frizz-embracing looks to keep the flyaways in check.
Styling your hair wet with braid or bun is a great stylish way to look great and beat the humidity. Indeed, an effortless way to avoid dealing with humidity altogether is opting for this lazy-girl hack we all love.
4. Don’t over wash your hair
If there's any time we're constantly on top of washing our hair, it's definitely summer. However, over-washing could be doing more harm than good.
By spreading out your shampoos, it will help your hair's natural oils to keep your hair moisturized.
Washing too much can cause your hair to dry out, giving frizz more of an opportunity to come out.
Let dry shampoo be your new bestie this season.
5. Don’t blast your hair with a hair dryer immediately
If you have long hair, swing it around to one side and hold the ends in one hand while you blow-dry the top, then do the same on the other side. Holding on to the hair means it can’t fly around and become frizzier.
Once you have done that, move your hand further up the hair so you can blow-dry the ends.
6. Apply a Hair mask
Just like a face mask, a hair mask is a treat that provides a specific benefit. For best results, it's important to use your hair mask correctly.
We'll walk you through the best practices.
- A hair mask should be applied to washed and towel-dried hair.
- Spread the cream evenly throughout your hair, piece by piece.
- Massage the product in from the roots to the tips then comb through your hair with your fingers.
- To optimise the mask's effects, cover your head with a hot towel for at least 10 minutes.
Now that’s sorted.. go forth and conquer that frizz hair lovers…
Have an awesome frizz free Summer!
